What's New for the 2018 Nissan Sentra?

The biggest news for the Nissan Sentra in 2018 is the addition of automatic emergency braking to all models with automatic transmissions. This is a major advance in safety as it helps to avoid accidents when a collision is detected to be imminent. In addition to this, the S trim now has a rearview monitor and 5-in touchscreen, the SV trim has gained a set of 16-in aluminum wheels and dual-zone climate control, and both the SR and SL trims have been upgraded with Intelligent Cruise Control.

The 2018 Sentra comes in 6 trim levels for a buyer to choose between. The basic S trim has a 6-speed manual transmission, steel wheels, air conditioning, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power windows and door locks, Bluetooth, basic cruise control, a 4-speaker audio system, rearview monitor, and LED headlights and taillights.

The SV trim level is an upgrade from the S trim. The audio system has 6 speakers and steering wheel controls. It also has an Intelligent Key and push-button starter, 5-in information screen, and NissanConnect software complete with Siri Eyes Free. The cabin is also equipped with dual-zone climate control and a more upscale cloth interior. The package is complete with a security system added to the S trim.

The SR trim level ups the ante from the SR trim with the addition of 17-in alloy wheels and other exterior upgrades like a rear spoiler, LED low-beam headlights, fog lights, chrome-tipped exhaust, and rear disc brakes. The cabin is improved with adaptive cruise control, heated front seats and side mirrors, and a sporty cloth upholstery.

The SL trim level gives the buyer a choice of several 17-in alloy wheels and adds features like automatic headlights, leather steering wheel, shifter and seats, a moonroof, 6-way power driver's seat, and a larger 5.8-in touchscreen. It's also equipped with more safety features like blind spot monitoring.

Both the SR Turbo and NISMO trim levels include a high-performance engine. The SR Turbo boasts superior suspension, better electronic steering, and upgraded brakes. The NISMO adds to that a stronger chassis and 18-in wheels with the NISMO's special 10-spoke design.

2018 Nissan Sentra ExteriorThe 2018 Nissan Sentra has two engines that comes with its trims: a fuel economy engine and a high-performance engine. The S, SV, SR, and SL trims have a 1.8-liter engine capable of 124 horsepower and 125ft-lbs. It's an efficient engine that provides good fuel economy for normal commuter driving.

The SR Turbo and NISMO trims are high performance, sporty choices and come with the engine to match: a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine packing 188 horsepower and yields 177ft-lbs. Buyers who want their Sentra to drive like a sports car have either of these two trims to provide that driving experience.

It got 5 stars on the side-impact test and 4 stars on both the front and rollover tests. The new Sentra's safety features include anti-lock brakes using front discs and rear drums on the S and SV trims and the higher quality disc brakes on all four wheels with the SR, SL, and both high-performance trims. All models with the automatic transmission option come with automatic emergency braking in 2018.
