Two up-and-coming NISMO drivers, Mark Shulzhitskiy and Jann Mardenborough, recently headed to a theme park to find out how much G-force roller coasters pull compared to racecars. It was a fun and educational trip - though mostly fun! Jann admitted being a bit afraid of heights and Mark had actually never been on a large roller coaster in his life.
G-force is the pressure, similar to the feeling of a heavy weight, that gravity exerts on an object (in this case, our two drivers) when it is accelerating relative to freefall. When navigating and performing crucial maneuvers in a swiftly moving racecar, it's something that drivers have to account for on the track every day, so riding roller coasters must have been an exciting and unique way for Jann and Mark to experience the same intensity in a whole different way.
To test the G-forces on the roller coasters, Mark used a special smartphone app. Then, strapped with GoPros, the two captured footage as they zipped through the air. While it was all done in the name of science, the pair had a blast in the process! Click play below to see how they compared their roller coaster experiences to driving race cars.
