Why Is My Car Shaking?
 Â
As you're driving along on the road, you start to feel your vehicle shaking. The shaking may feel more like a subtle vibration at first, but the shaking can become more severe over the next few minutes. It's a good idea to pull your vehicle over to the side of the road if you're having trouble maneuvering it. Call our service department to find out what you should do next. We want to make sure that you're safe while behind the wheel, and it looks like your vehicle needs service.
Engine Trouble
We can't emphasize enough the need for proper airflow through your engine. This is primarily provided by way of your air filter. This shouldn't be confused with your cabin air filter, which is in a different part of your automobile. We'll look for a clogged air filter if you're having shaking issues. We'll also check your spark plugs for issues. It's very common for spark plugs to require service when you're getting to the point of having around 80,000 to 100,000 miles on your vehicle.
Brake Service and Repairs
Your brakes must be routinely inspected and serviced when needed. Without your brakes working correctly, you can expect shaking. You can also experience a compromised level of safety. Your owner's manual will detail when you should expect service on your brakes, but it's usually around 50,000 miles.
Wheel Concerns
Your wheels need to be properly fastened to your vehicle, not to be confused with your tires (which are also essential and can cause shaking). Tie rod ends, wheel bearings, and ball joints all need to be in good condition and functioning properly.
Axles
Your axles can be damaged because of debris or dangerous road surfaces. You can experience damage to one axle, but both can become damaged at once. Axle damage can also include CV joint and driveshaft problems. Shaking can be mild at first, or you can experience shaking only when you're pressing down on the gas pedal. Axle problems can also be felt through the steering wheel in many cases.
Tires
Each time you bring your vehicle into our service department, we'll inspect your tire tread, air pressure (PSI), alignment, balance, etc. This is a sensitive part of your vehicle that can easily become affected by rough terrain, potholes, accidents, etc.
