Why Is My Car Overheating?
 Â
Routine service for your automobile is more important than you may realize. When it comes to your cooling system, there are several parts within this system that we regularly inspect to ensure they’re intact. If anything were to go wrong with your cooling system, your engine bay would start to heat up quite quickly. There’s a lot of damage that can occur from this excessive heat. Even if you’ve had your vehicle inspected recently, but you’ve noticed an increase in engine temperature, schedule an appointment with a service technician at Peoria Nissan for assistance.
The Importance of a Functioning Cooling System
Your cooling system consists of a few different parts, but they all work in unison to control engine temperature. If anyone part of this puzzle isn’t working the way it should be, your engine can quickly overheat. Our technicians know what to look for when trying to diagnose something like a broken thermostat or water pump damage.
Hoses and Belts
If you’ve ever seen your engine in action, then you know how fast some of the internal belts run. These belts can easily slip off the track, and there’s even the risk of having your belt rip into two pieces. The same goes for the hoses that are used within your cooling system to move fluids like coolant. They can develop a crack or hole that would leak coolant.
Water Pump and Coolant
Your water pump functions as the tool used to move coolant to where it needs to go. This pump is prone to corrosion or rust as your vehicle gets older, and that kind of damage can often lead to small leaks that are hard to spot.
Radiator Malfunction
Heat needs to be radiated away from your engine to maintain a cooling effect. Your radiator may not be completing this process properly if a fan inside isn’t moving freely. Other interior connections could be damaged as well.
Thermostat Valves
The inside of your thermostat is a valve that provides a channel for coolant to pass through as needed. We can check to see if that valve is moving as intended. It may be getting stuck in a way that is preventing proper coolant flow.
Contact Peoria Nissan for assistance if you think your engine is overheating. You should keep a close eye on your thermostat gauge inside of your vehicle. You may also find that your car throws an error code that needs to be checked out. You can also carefully place your hand on the hood of your vehicle to see if it feels more warm than normal.
