Nissan vehicles have been sold in America since 1959, when the automaker introduced its Datsun line at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Although it took some time for the Japanese automaker to reach American shores, many are glad it did. Nissan is celebrated for its clever, sporty designs, reliability, and, above all, safety. The brand is also known for maintaining fair pricing.

How It Started, Where It's Going

Nissan's origins date back to 1911 when Masujiro Hashimoto founded Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works. Three years later, the DAT car was introduced. After several name changes, the company was renamed Nissan Co. Ltd. in 1934. The Datsun Model 14 was the first model released following this pivotal moment in the company's history.

Nissan's post-war history in the 1940s was marked by recovery. The Nissan truck Model 2124 debuted in 1947, followed by the Datsun Model DB, a passenger car, in 1948. Nissan's history in America has been particularly impactful, with the Datsun 1200 coupes gaining immense popularity and maintaining an excellent reputation among their owners.

In the past decade, Nissan has introduced Americans to fantastic models like the Nissan Pathfinder (SUV), Nissan Frontier (truck), and the GT-R (sports car). The GT-R, a direct descendant of the iconic Nissan Skyline, showcases the brand's love for motorsports and its knack for creating vehicles fit for a Fast and Furious movie. With over 100 years of innovation, Nissan continues to push boundaries. The company's first electric vehicle, the TAMA, was released in 1947. Today, with a growing demand for electric vehicles, Nissan is more focused on this segment than ever before. Whatever Nissan sets its mind to in the next century, we can expect it to achieve its goals and delight drivers worldwide.
