Like many drivers who purchase electric cars, Amy Eichenberger actually hadn't even thought about transitioning to a zero-gas vehicle. As a matter of fact, she wasn't even in the market for a car when the LEAF caught her attention. So what was it that drew her over to the green side?

The 47-year-old Virginia resident and mother of two noticed that one of her colleagues owned a Nissan LEAF. Its "modern-looking, futuristic" style got her interested in wanting to learn more about the car and that's when she decided to give it a test drive. She owned a Mercedes for 10 years and describes herself as a "picky" shopper.

Her primary initial concern about the LEAF regarded range, so she test drove some gas- and diesel-fueled competitors for a comparison, and to her surprise range wasn't the only characteristic that was impressive about the LEAF when measured against the non-electric cars she tried out.

"I'd been told once I drove a Mercedes I'd never drive anything else again. I don't need fancy, but I do appreciate the solid feel and craftsmanship of a luxury vehicle, and I get that in the LEAF ... I considered the VW Jetta TDI, Toyota Prius, Honda CRV and a couple of Subaru wagons, and I always came back to the Nissan LEAF. Everything else seemed stuck in the past," said Amy.

Ultimately, she purchased the electric car and just so happened to become the 99,999th global Nissan LEAF owner in the process. To date, LEAF is the top-selling EV in history and currently holds 48% market share of the electric vehicle market worldwide.
