Nissan's retro-inspired IDx sports car sent the automaker's fans, and journalists alike, into a frenzy when it made its debut at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. Its styling cues, taken from the classic Datsun 510, were admired by many and its rear-wheel-drive powertrain only enhanced its appeal. Ever since that day, people have wondered when they'd actually get to see a full-fledged production version of the IDx arrive on the market, especially since rumors were swirling about development complications. While these may have been true, it's now being said that Nissan has come up with a solution to the problems that could indeed jumpstart IDx production and satisfy fans everywhere.

Motoring, an automotive website in Australia, has received information from a special source claiming Nissan has decided to tone down the retro-styling on the IDx in order make it more affordable. The coupe is expected to adopt the recently unveiled Sport Sedan Concept's floating roof design and gain sharper edges around the fenders, while sitting atop the same platform as the upcoming next-generation Z model. A 180 horsepower 2.0L four-cylinder engine could also find its way on the IDx; however, no official word has been given in regards to this. We'll just have to wait and see what Nissan decides to do, but we hope we'll get word soon.
